My first week at the VCE internship was a short one. Because of some paperwork processing delays, I didn’t get to start work until Wednesday; however, those first three days were still a positive, productive whirlwind! Admittedly, I was a bit apprehensive about how this internship could play out, since I’m starting work right in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic. A lot of the programming I was originally set to work on has been cancelled or is being redesigned for remote participation. Still, the extension agents and everyone in their network seems willing and ready to transition everything as best as possible, and I’m already getting started on that work. This week, I’ve generated themed Facebook posts for 4-H, helped move farmers market vendors to a new online store, and even researched design specs for meat processing plants–something I never would have guessed I’d be doing. Perhaps most challenging of all, I’ve tackled the office’s new phone system! Only three days in, I already feel like I’m learning so much. Despite the hurdles involved in getting this internship started, everyone at the office has been unimaginably kind, patient, and helpful to me. I know there’s still a lot more ahead of me, but I’m very excited to keep learning and working here over the next several weeks.
